Cornwall has been named as one of the top holiday destinations to see a UFO sighting in the UK, according to research.

Holiday booking company Laterooms.com has analysed UFO (Unidentified Flying Objects) sighting data over the past 12 months in the 25 most popular UK holiday destinations. It has published the data in celebration of 40 years since ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’ was released.

Cornwall was listed at number seven on the list in the UK and was beaten to the top spot by Yorkshire, which was named the top holiday destination to visit for the best chance of an other-worldly experience. Kent, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Somerset, Devon, Cumbria and Derbyshire also made it into the top ten.

Top UFO-spotting expert, Nick Pope, spoke to Laterooms.com about the best tips to try and spot a UFO in the UK. He suggested finding an open view and downloading an astronomy app on your phone to get to know the stars and satellites in the night sky.

Nick also said if you do spot something to photograph or film it with some background features in shot so it’s possible to calculate an object’s distance, size and speed.

Earlier this year CornwallLive reported how a man was left shocked when he saw a strange, large and fast-moving orb of light in the sky over the water from his house. Dan Pengelly, who lives at Looe Hill in Seaton, described the bizarre sight that he spotted around six weeks ago from his home overlooking the sea.

At around 7pm on a January evening, Dan said he opened his patio doors to enjoy a cup of tea while enjoying the view. A “pitch black” night, he was shocked to see a “big, round light” floating in the sky.

“It looked like it was on fire,” Dan said, “But there’s no way it was a meteor or anything. It changed direction, horizontally in front of me then changed direction again out to see.

“I was just hypnotised, staring at it wondering, what the hell.

“Then I went to get my phone, which took me about 20 seconds,” and by the time I got it out I could only get three small lots of footage.
