Thousands of images have been published online ever since NASA decided to explore the Red Planet and uncover its secret.
Is there life on Mars? Was there ever life on Mars? And is it possible that Mars was sometime in the distant past, a planet similar to Earth?
These questions have remained unanswered for decades.
But the more we explore the red planet with various lenders, satellites and rovers, the more we understand how Mars may have once been a planet not much different from Earth.
Yes, millions of millions of years ago, there was abundant water on the surface of Mars. Just as Earth, the red planet was once home of massive oceans, lakes, and rivers.
It also had an atmosphere, that was relatively recently blown away by the solar wind, turning the red planet from a world similar to Earth, to what we see today.
In our journey to find out as much as possible about Mars, we’ve seen tens of thousands of images snapped from Mars.
Some of these images resemble objects we see on Earth.
That similarity, however, does not necessarily mean there was once a civilization similar to ours on Mars, it means that a phenomenon called Pareidolia is playing tricks with our mind.
Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon in which the mind responds to a stimulus, usually an image or a sound, by perceiving a familiar pattern where none exists.
A Pyramid on Mars?
News about the discovery of pyramids, walls, structures, domes, and even UFOs has flooded the internet for the past decade.
Numerous times have UFO hunters claimed they’d spotted undeniable proof there was once intelligent life on Mars.
These claims became stronger; the more images were beamed back from Mars.
Every once in a while, someone claims to have found an object or structure on Mars that surely must have been built in the past by Martians.
Now, Scott C Waring, a famous UFO hunter believes there’s a pyramid on Mars, and it’s evidence of aliens.
“I found a giant three-sided pyramid on Mars in a Gigapan photo today. The pyramid has one smooth side, which is probably the original outer coating that was made for it, but the other two sides have severely eroded,” alien hunter Scott C Waring claimed, according to the Daily Express.
“The mystery of pyramids have led to speculation that they were created by extraterrestrials that were trying to settle in an area and follow their cultural beliefs.”
As much as we’d love to say we’ve found traces of alien civilizations, we simply haven’t yet.
In fact, the alleged pyramid Warring claims is evidence of aliens is, in fact, something entirely different.
The image, available on the GigaPan website, is, in fact, a product of the HiRISE Camera, onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO).
The image has a scale of 26 centimeters per pixel, which makes the ‘structure’ Warring spotted around 40 meters by 30 meters. This would make the ‘Martian Pyramid’ smaller than the smallest of the pyramids at the Giza Plateau.
To understand the odd shape of the structure, we have to look at where its located.
The alleged three-sided pyramid is found in the Candor Chasma region on Mars, which happens to be one of the largest canyons in the Valles Marineris, which turns out to be the second longest and deepest canyon system in the entire Solar System.
The sharp edges Warring speaks of are, in fact, the result of erosion and match other geological features located in the Candor Chasma region.
But the article recently picked up by IFLScience isn’t the first time someone made claims that the formation in Candor Chasma is a pyramid.
According to a ‘study‘ published in Trade Science, an online publication claiming to be an International Publisher of Science, Technology, and Medicine that emerged in accordance to the demands of the scientific community as an Open Access Journals, the formation in the Candor Chasma region is an intricately built pyramid.
The author of the study is Haas GJ, a member of the so-called Cydonian Institue, which attempts to analyze similar oddly-shaped formation on Mars.
The study published on October 27, 2017, reads:
A three-sided pyramidal formation located within the Candor Chasma region of Mars is examined. The formation is presented in five NASA images provided by the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) spacecraft. The images reveal defining aspects of the formations three-sided Reuleaux geometry, exposing a uniform symmetry in its three, triangular faces. A geologist and a geoscientist examine natural mechanisms that could contribute to the creation of the pyramidal formation and a claim of intelligent construction is proposed. An extensive search of comparable regions within and beyond the area of Candor Chasma was conducted and terrestrial comparisons are also offered. A request for additional images is recommended and a broader study of this anomalous formation is encouraged.
The study authored by Haas concluded:
“We contend that the structural form of this three-sided pyramid observed within the western region of Candor Chasma is real and exhibits a level of geometry and symmetry that supports a high probability of artificial origins. We recommend that both NASA and the imaging team at the University of Arizona direct the current Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) spacecraft acquire addition images of this anomalous surface feature.”
“The largest Mars Pyramids have a base width of 3 km and a height of 1 km, so they are much larger than the Pyramids of Sumer, Egypt, and Mexico. With the ancient eroded shape, they could be small hills, sandblasted for centuries, but they need to be viewed from nearby.”
