If the hacking collective known as “The Dark Overlord” is to be believed, our entire world could be on the precipice of an earth-shattering transformation.

These cybercriminals have done the unthinkable, procuring a massive cache of 18,000 documents related to the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001.  Specifically, these hackers have retrieved materials pertaining to the major insurance providers involved in settling accounts in the aftermath of these attacks.  Through the anonymity of the internet, The Dark Overlord has announced that these documents have been arranged by layer, with the information becoming more scandalous as we move from Layer 1 to Layer 5.

Upon arrival at Layer 5, the hackers believe that our world could be reshaped by the sheer magnitude of the secrets contained within.

On Monday, New Year’s Eve, a hacker group announced it had breached a law firm handling cases related to the September 11 attacks, and threatened to publicly release a large cache of related internal files unless their ransom demands were met.

The news is the latest public extortion attempt from the group known as The Dark Overlord, which has previously targeted a production studio working for Netflix, as well as a host of medical centres and private businesses across the United States. The announcement also signals a slight evolution in The Dark Overlord’s strategy, which has expanded on leveraging the media to exert pressure on victims, to now distributing its threats and stolen data in a wider fashion.

In its announcement published on Pastebin, The Dark Overlord points to several different insurers and legal firms, claiming specifically that it hacked Hiscox Syndicates Ltd, Lloyds of London, and Silverstein Properties.

“Hiscox Syndicates Ltd and Lloyds of London are some of the biggest insurers on the planet insuring everything from the smallest policies to some of the largest policies on the planet, and who even insured structures such as the World Trade Centers,” the announcement reads.

And, beyond the 9/11 materials, The Dark Overlord is also claiming to own materials regarding UFO’s and the existence of non-earthly beings.

During a 4chan Q&A the group additionally claimed to have documents related to UFO disclosure. “Now, our next release about UFOs, yeah, that’s a 10 mate, but it’s going to wait until we’re done here,” The Dark Overlord said.

In the context of that above-quoted material, “that’s a ten” is meant to signify the level of which these documents will affect the human race.  They had previously claimed that Edward Snowden’s work would have been rated a “6” and that their current 9/11 release is coming in around “7.5”.

A “10” rating, especially from a group with the history of The Dark Overlord is both terrifying and titillating.
